Orange Creamsicle Shake Recipe

Orange Creamsicle Shake Recipe Orange ShakeLike the classic ice-cream treat that inspires it, this refreshing shake combines the zest of orange and the smooth flavor of vanilla. Creamy and rich, this homemade Orange Creamsicle Shake is sure to satisfy and nourish.

For this shake you’ll notice that I used fresh, raw goat milk from an organic goat who lives right here locally in topanga. Local is always best, but any way that you can get some organic raw dairy instead of the pasteurized stuff they sell in most stores is awesome. You’ll notice that you can also substitute the raw milk for any non-dairy milk of your choice.

Enjoy this nostalgic childhood treat!

  • 1 large, ripe orange
  • 1 1/2 cups of ice cubes
  • 1/2 cup raw goat or cow milk or dairy-free milk of your choice (coconut, almond, ect.)
  • 2 tsp real vanilla extract
  • 3 Tbs raw coconut palm sugar
  • 4-5 drops of liquid stevia (optional)

Place your peeled orange in a blender and blend very thoroughly.

Add the remaining ingredients and blend again. Serve immediately.

The secret to super thick, and creamy shake is blend, blend, and then blend some more. Keep blending, even if you are sure that all the ice bits are gone. Trust me, it makes a big difference!

You may have to adjust the amount of sweetener to your family’s tastes. It is not overwhelmingly sweet, but pleasantly refreshing. The stevia could be omitted altogether, or more/less coconut sugar. This can also be made with raw honey, although it changes the taste of the final result just a bit.

Yields 2 servings

3 Tips For When There’s Nothing Healthy To Eat

So last week in Vermont we took a stroll into the one store in the whole town (which was actually a bank, laundromat, hardware store, and grocery store combined), and there was nothing organic in the entire store!

Yep, NOTHING was organic. They didn’t have a gluten-free or dairy-free section, and there were no restaurants to go to either.  Just a town BBQ following the Forth of July parade.

Not exactly the healthy, gluten-free, dairy-free, organic, free-range fare that we’re used to at home.

What do you do when you’re away from home and there’s nothing organic or healthy to eat? This is a question I’m frequently asked.

So what did we do? We made the best choices that we could make, and dug in!

Yep, we didn’t eat perfectly that day… and we didn’t beat our self’s up about it either. We eat very healthy at home so that when we are out of town or celebrating, we can afford to eat a little off of our program.

Here’s 3 Tips For When There’s Nothing Healthy To Eat:

1) Eat healthy MOST of the time.

When healthy food is easy and accessible, this is the time to eat well. Then when you’re out of town or want to celebrate, your body can afford to eat a little off your program. Remember, the body is an amazing self-healing organism, and you can always start a cleanse when you get home if you feel like you overdid it.

2) Make the best choices you can.

Make a list of the top foods that make the biggest impact on your health and waistline, and try to stay clear of the worst avengers. For us (and most people), gluten and dairy are the big foods that really make us feel like crap and pack on the pounds quickly, so we try to stay clear of those first.

3) Don’t beat yourself up about it!

It’s not realistic (or healthy) to try to eat perfectly all the time. Part of being in balance is allowing yourself to not be perfect and to enjoy that foods that feed your soul. Occasionally straying from your usual eating plan and enjoying a treat can help to prevent binging or ditching your plan all together later on.  Remember, the name of the game is balance, not all-or-nothing… so at least ENJOY that treat if you’re going to eat it!

Beautiful article, Rose! And such needed advice. :)

Oiy, traveling can be tricky… I just had 2 wonderful weeks in Hawaii, working and playing… And while it was fantastic, I have to admit the one thing I was happy to come home to in LA was all the crazy healthy available food.

    Thanks for sharing! xx

Yes, there’s a product that’s from Vitamin Research Products called Lectin Lock. You can take it as instructed.

Quick and Easy Lemongrass Tea

For me, drinking tea isn’t just about drinking more fluids, or the health benefits of the tea itself, it’s a ritual that reminds me to take time for myself and to receive. It’s a beautiful way to get into your feminine energy and savor life a little more.

When my husband and I were on our honeymoon in Bali, one of my favorite things was to sit by the sea and drink lemongrass tea. The sweet aroma was exotic and made me feel sexy. It also aids in digestion, and has been known to help ease the pain of arthritis, among many, many other things.

You can even grow lemongrass in your garden and brew your own herbal tea with it. Follow these steps to brew a perfect cup of lemongrass tea.

  • 1 stalk lemongrass
  • 2 cups filtered water
  • sweetener of your choice to taste *optional

Remove dry tops and tough outer leaves of lemongrass and cut stalk into small rounds.

Bring water to a boil in saucepan, add lemongrass and boil for 10 minutes. Remove from heat, cover and steep for at least half an hour.

For more pronounced flavor, place in refrigerator and allow to steep several hours or overnight.

Strain lemongrass through strainer or sieve, pressing on the solids to extract as much flavor as possible. Discard the solids, and add sweetener of choice to taste. Serve hot, chilled, or over ice.

I like to garnish with a couple slices or small stock of lemongrass on the side of the saucer or right in the mug.

OPTIONAL ADD IN: Also great with about 1 Tbs fresh ginger, which you can slice and add to the lemongrass while it’s boiling, or to the glass after you pour it to serve. This adds a very strong hot-n-sour flavor, so you might want to try it without for your first time and then try adding ginger for your second cup.

I love this recipe Rose. Lemongrass tea was one of my favorite things when I was in Bali too. I had no idea it was so easy to make. Question for you… where can we find lemongrass if we aren’t able to grow our own?

Thanks again for the recipe! I can’t wait to try it! ~Susan

  2. Danielle says:

This looks yummy! I’ll have to find some lemongrass and give it a try!!

  3. Rose says:

You can find lemongrass at most health food stores, and many regular grocery stores carry it as well. Another great place to look for it would be Asian markets. It’s a fun recipe!

Hi Rose… I recommend the following subtitle:

The Conscious Woman’s Handbook for Making A Difference In The World While Creating The Life Of Your Dreams

My advice is that you either use High Priestess or Spiritual Warrior – but not use both, as these power titles will compete for attention. In addition, Spiritual Warrior portrays more masculine power verses the feminine power within High Priestess.

Hope this helps… Best Wishes in the success of your ebook!

#5 It is simple to understand. I also think that for people that might not know who you are, if they see that book title they might buy it. In any case I think you should use one of the titles that include “living your dreams” in the title and putting it first. Most people are way more concerned about themselves first and then others. ( Just thinking about sells) But it’s your book, I’m sure it will be great either way!

A Profound Stand For Love

A Profound Stand For Love
Still shot of Annie
Somethings are just too good NOT to share. If you’re in a relationship, you’ll want to keep reading.  If you’ve ever been triggered or overcome with anger, you’ll want to keep reading.

Below is an email that I received from my amazing relationship coach, Annie Lalla.

Rosie love,

Thanks for being open to the intensity of last night’s call.  I appreciated your candor and frustrations.

There’s some things I want you to practice, even when you’re in a slightly angry state.

My theory is that once you’re upset, triggered, in ‘survival’ mode…you lose your connection to your timeline (past, present, future).  And the neg. state you are in ‘now’ feels like it extends all the way backwards and forwards to infinity, as if it’s always been, will always be this way.  During depression, people often experience this: their current reality feels like it’s the truth forever, backwards & forwards.  They can’t see their state as ephemeral or fleeting.  And it becomes scary & intolerable.  I suspect you go through a mini-version of this when you are triggered or upset.  And the solution is to gain access to the fact that this state is temporary and ALWAYS followed by something better.  All forms of depression get entrenched by the (false) belief that things won’t change.  But they do, change is inevitable, so long as you stay in the game.

Ok, here are 2 exercises I want you to remember when you get upset:

1) See your neg. state/event/situation on a timeline.  Look backwards and remember that your past has many examples of you experiencing joy, happiness, being understood, loved up, supported by Nat etc.  Climb into those experiences and feel them as real in your body, now.

Now look out into the future and see it filled with similar loving situations, extrapolated from the past.  Notice how what’s going on now is only a temp blip on a vast timeline.  Then climb into an imagined future situation, where you and Nat are connecting in a mutually empowering space and observe in your body what it feels like.  Pay attention to your thoughts, feelings, posture, breathing.  Feel what it feels like to know for sure that he’s the one for you. Take inventory of the ‘gestalt’ of that state and anchor it to a snapshot image.  Then look back from that future to this moment (now, in the past).  Notice how the ‘issue’ looks different from that happy future state -smaller, easier, negligible. This should help dissolve your anger & re-presence your optimism, hence generate your love.

2) I also want you to call forward this Indian deity ‘Durga’ ( Embody her as  your warrior self and take a stand for the life of your marriage, defending it from all fear & doubt (Your husband’s and your own) …the same way you as mother bear would fight off a lion approaching your baby cub.  I know this Devi goddess is in you and I want you to channel her when you’re upset.  She is the wise defender, protector and I want you to use her strength to fight for the future of your relationship.  As a woman, I believe you must be willing to fight for love, beauty and the future you dream is possible.

I know this sounds counter-intuitive, but being in love is the hardest work there is…however it’s good, gratifying, muscle-building work.  Tenacity, patience and above all else FAITH are the 3 keys.  I want to help you keep tethered to your Faith in this relationship -it is the umblical cord that connects you and Nat to your marriage, keeping it alive.  Faith has no reasons, or proof, or justifications…it is pure blind resolve based on nothing but the unwavering belief in something you find beautiful.

Ok, those are the leftover thoughts I wanted to share.  Hope some of it resonates and is useful.

-fighting for your peace, love you, Annie

This is beautiful & incredibly useful. Thank you for sharing something so intimate! You’re impacting the world, and I want to say thanks. :-)

  2. Callan says:

Hmmm… this was very interesting. However, what I”m wondering is when I am in a highly emotional state like anger or sadness etc, a logical, sequential, thoughtful process like this one seems highly unlikely! Even the physiology of it is wrong as we are in an entirely non-logical part of the brain… I do like the idea of remembering the state is fleeting – but I know when emotions go up, the ability to think goes way down.

  3. Kat says:

If one can actually stop the steam coming out of the ears and do this during those moments when you are nothing other than ‘Durga’, it’s a win. But it’s so hard…

Yet I agree that love is the hardest as well as the most rewarding work. Well put Annie.

  4. Susan says:

I love this! Thank you so much Annie and Rose! ~Susan

  5. Jen says:

Rose – Sorry, I was not sure where to post this…what kind of home water filtration system do you recommend? Affordable but good would be wonderful….

    Thanks so much!

Comforting Holiday Aromatherapy

Orange with cloveNature Cheers The Heart & Brightens The Mood!

The appeal of the familiar and lively scent of orange makes it one of the world’s most popular scents.

The scent of orange or orange essential oil adds an uplifting quality to blends and combines especially well with lavender, rose, and spices oils like clove bud.

And this is just my theory, but I think it’s impossible to be sad or depressed while smelling the scent of orange!

Aromatherapy Benefits of Orange:

  • Refreshing
  • Uplifting
  • Cheering
  • Flights Depression & Winter Blues
  • It’s The Scent of “YES!”

Another one of my favorites around the holidays is the scent of clove, which just so happens to go perfectly with orange.

Clove buds or clove bud oil is a sweet, spicy aroma that’s familiar and comforting. Clove bud adds warmth to blends containing lavender, bergamont, and clary sage.

Aromatherapy Benefits of Clove:

  • Warming
  • Anti-microbial
  • Sense-enlivening
  • Comforting

It’s also an excellent oil for diffusion especially with the scent of orange to create a cheerful, positive atmosphere.

Here’s my favorite recipe for easy at-home holiday comfort aromatherapy if you don’t have a diffuser machine, or if you just want a fun project with kids.

4 cups water
1 orange (sliced)
1/4 cup whole cloves
1 1/2 teaspoon orange essential oil
1 1/2 clove bud essential oil

Place orange slices and cloves in a pan and simmer water.  Add orange  & clove essential oils to create a comforting homespun atmosphere. TIP: add more water as needed as it evaporate

Raw Chocolate Pudding Recipe

This is the latest episode of Wellness With Rose TV. The video is of  my raw chocolate pudding at the last Powerful Women Powwow 3 month coaching program. The women there absolutely loved it, as does everyone who tastes it. Seriously, even people who aren’t usually health conscious are blown away by the flavor and can’t believe that something so tasty could be good for them.

I have the most wonderful recipe for chocolate pudding that is 100% raw, 100% healthy and 150% delicious! There’s no refined sugar, no gluten, no soy and no dairy. There are only three main ingredients and it takes less than 5 minutes to make.  What makes this pudding raw is the fact that none of the components is ever cooked above 118°, leaving all of the energy and vitality giving enzymes completely intact.

The main ingredient is raw chocolate – a superfood that has one of the highest antioxidant values of any food on the planet. Though you’d never know it by the taste, avocado is added for texture and the nutritional benefits of its essential fatty acids. Avocados are super healthy for you and any tales you’ve heard about them making you gain weight are myths. The fact is, not all fats are created equally. You need good fat in your diet and besides, it’s not a person’s fat intake that creates weight gain, it’s sugar. The essential fats in avocado can actually help you lose weight, plus they’re so good for your skin.

Watch the video then try the recipe for yourself. Not only is it delicious, mixing the ingredients in a mini-blender heats them up so that it tastes just like traditional pudding fresh off the stove. I promise, you are going to love it!

“Chia Tapioca Pudding Recipe” Ch-ch-ch-chia!

You remember Chia Pets, the pottery that grows, right? Well, chia seeds aren’t just for smearing onto your favorite terra cotta character any more. They’re actually edible and really healthy for you.

They provide tons of protein, fiber and are a great source of essential fatty acids. Chia seeds are an especially good source of Omega-3 and provide the highest level of this essential fatty acid of any vegetarian source. Plus, eating chia seeds gives you extra energy and stamina. In fact, ancient Aztec runners used to carry pocketfuls of chia seeds to keep them going on long hauls.

One of my favorite recipes with chia seeds is my Chia Tapioca Pudding. Here’s a video of me making it with two of the incredible women from my “Powerful Woman Powwow” Program, Katherine Deva and Angela Minelli.

This recipe is “raw”, has zero dairy or sugar and is sweetened instead with all-natural stevia, a calorie-free herb that has no impact on glycemic levels. This recipe even helps you to lose weight!

And, because it has so few ingredients, Chia Tapioca Pudding takes less than 15 minutes to make and is a quick, delicious treat that’ll boost your energy, increase your stamina and stockpile your system with Omega-3’s and other essential fatty acids. Check out the video then try the recipe for yourself. What’s not to love?

    Hi Rose!
This is one of my fave recipes I make it once a week. You can try adding 1/3rd cup hemp seeds to add another layer of nutrition especially with the cacao powder for a super charged breakfast or dessert. Also try wisking the mixture instead of shaking it, you won’t get the lumpiness that you showed on the video…this recipe has been around forever I guess everyone puts their own spin on it!

“Guess The Dress” Contest!

**Thank you for participating in my “Guess The Dress” Contest!  The contest is now closed.  Please be sure to check back on July 23rd, “My Wedding Day” to see a picture of me in the ‘Winning Dress’!  Everyone who guessed the right dress will be receiving an email with your prize details!**

I seem to be asked one question more than any other these days, and it’s not about nutrition, it’s…. WHAT DOES YOUR WEDDING DRESS LOOK LIKE?!

So I decided to do something fun and create a contest around guessing what wedding dress is mine.

Practically the first thing I did when I got engaged was go look for my wedding dress (of course, right girls?), and I knew I didn’t want some mass-produced gown made in a sweatshop in China. I also wanted to find a dress that was eco-responsible as possible, but I had a really hard time finding a dress that was eco-friendly and still cute.

The dresses I found either looked like a burlap sack, or were VERY expensive, but I found Lindee Daniel at an eco-Bridal fair here in LA, and just fell in love with one of her dresses!

All of her dresses are made out of all eco-friendly materials.  The dress I chose is made out of silk, where they don’t even harm the moth in the process, they harvest the raw silk that is left behind after the moth as left. Everything in the making of these dresses is as eco and fair-trade as possible, and the best part is…. I LOVE my dress!

The winners will receive a Goddess Teleclass. For thousands of years, women have been meeting in community to relax, rejuvenate, and share beauty secrets. In this teleseminar with the other winners, you’ll have the chance to ask me all of your nutrition and beauty questions, and I’ll share my beauty secrets with you!

You’ll also receive a free copy of my “Rose’s Pure Beauty Guide” e-Book. Your FREE copy of “Rose’s Pure Beauty Guide” is packed with tips, do–it-yourself spa treatments, and homemade organic skin care recipes, that are quick and easy to mix, and are full of powerful nutrients to help heal and nourish your skin.

To cast your vote, simply leave a blog comment with your name, and which dress number you think is mine. (Be sure to enter your correct email when creating your post since that is the only way we have to contact you if you win)

Good luck!  ~Rose

Hi Rose, I guess it’s #2, because this dress is so flowing, light and pure – almost like a fairy dress, and I suppose this would match you best. I wish you all the best for your marriage!
Btw: #1 would be my second choice, it is also beautiful yet seems to be “heavier” and more dramatic. #5 comes in 3rd, because it is very delicate but still a bit too “normal”. #3 looks a bit french and very sophisticated, but I would prefer different straps (holderneck or strapless would be nice). #4 is nice but looks more like organza than silk – and I would prefer the cut on older ladies. #6 might be a nice party or cocktail dress, but is no wedding dress choice imho, therefor it would be my last choice.
