I have a confession
Nat & I went on a date last night, and I ate an entire Ben & Jerry’s Caramel Sundae Ice Cream – all by myself! Can you believe it?? I never eat this kind of stuff– especially because I don’t eat dairy OR sugar. I have to say it was so rich and sweet, I couldn’t believe it.
So what were the results? Not pretty… because my body is so clean, I woke up this morning feeling like I drank a whole bottle of wine, but I didn’t have a single sip of alcohol. My head felt fuzzy, I’m tired, I feel a little out of it and I’m coughing up more phlegm than usual. I’m totally NOT on my A-game.
I’m realizing now that most people think the only reason you don’t want to eat sugar or junk food is because of the weight gain, but how about the way it makes you feel? Most people eat dairy all the time, so they don’t realize that it’s causing them to be tired, because they have nothing to compare it to.
Was it worth it? In the moment it was because it was so rich and sugary and good – but moments later I felt totally guilty for eating it, and I already stared to feel the sugar crash.
I just wanted to let you know that even I don’t eat perfectly all the time. Every once in a while I try to test myself to see if I can eat like I used to, but it just makes me feel so crummy that it’s not worth it to me.
Going years without eating ice cream, I don’t think it was worth it, but I think the lesson for me is that my goal isn’t to be perfect with my eating, and that sometimes it’s a good remind to myself of why I eat the way I do.
In love and service,

Thanks for sharing! I’m so confused what I can and can’t eat – I have hypoglycemia and need to eat lots of protein, feel better when I eat healthy and don’t crave too much sugar. But I love cheese and use milk all the time. How do you switch over to not using those items?
Dairy makes you tired? I personally don’t like the taste of milk but my parents make me drink it because they say it’s good for you. I’m confused now. Is it good for you or bad for you.
Have you tried the dairy and soy free purely decadent coconut ice creams? They are sweetened with agave nector and are yummy for a special treat!

I use lots of almond milk and rice milk, and I never miss dairy products anymore. They even make almond cheese nowadays!
If dairy has been pasteurized (which 99% of it has been) then for the most part, it is not good for you. You can’t really absorb the calcium in it, so you’re better off eating green veggies for calcium. I drink lots of almond milk that I get from the health food store, and I like it better then milk now! I have this great free article about the dangers of dairy here: http://www.rosecole.com/articles/gluten-free-and-dairy-free/energysabotager.html
Hot Yoga! It’s GREAT in the winter months b/c you’re actually excited to go when it’s cold outside!
Hi ladies,
Schedule a session or two a week with a personal trainer. It forces you to be accountable. If you have a scheduled appointment that is prepaid you are more likely to follow through with your workout. Also, having a workout partner is helpful! Good luck with your workout goals in 2010 everyone!
Hi Rose,
thank you for being so honest with us. I do not know why, but since I moved to LA, I have the same issue… Cannot get myself to the gym. First issue that I noticed is car. I spend so many hours in the car to drive for work, that going to a car for another “work-ing out”, is so unmotivating for me, like I do not want to sit in that damn car again… Driving car to the gym is a big obstacle for me, especially here in LA. And when I get to the gym, it is so boring and unmotivating for me. So I am just looking for something new and fun, what will catch me, and will be no more just working out, but “funning out”, like your friend Andrea Albright says…
