Agave nectar hit the markets a while back and we all jumped on the healthy sweetener bandwagon. Since its emergence as an alternative to sugar, agave nectar has become all the rage. Now widely marketed, agave nectar is being used in products ranging from spelt and Kamut cakes to ketchup. Agave nectar has a lot of devotees who believe that they’ve finally found a healthy, natural sweetener that they can get away with. Unfortunately, there has been a lot of press recently with evidence showing that agave nectar is not as healthy as we once thought.

Now, before we all go throwing out our stock of agave nectar and forgoing sweeteners (again), let’s take a look at these articles a little more closely. Sure, there are things to watch out for when consuming agave nectar … just like any other sweetener. However, a lot of writers who proclaim the dangers of agave nectar in their articles have a conflict of interest. Many of them are associated with companies who promote products, like brown rice syrup and stevia, which compete with agave nectar. Even if they don’t sell competing products, they may have some alliance to, or have gotten their information from, a source that promotes a competing product.

The fact is, agave nectar is a sweetener … NOT a superfood. It offers few health benefits (although there are some studies linking agave nectar to increase in bone density, and other health benefits), and like all sweeteners, should be used in moderation.

First the good news: The agave plant, which is the raw material used to make tequila, contains fructans, non- digestible carbohydrates that help the body absorb calcium and magnesium. Studies have already shown that fructans promote growth of good bacteria in the intestines, prompting better absorption of minerals such as calcium and magnesium. And in a follow up study, researchers found that mice fed agave absorbed more calcium and significantly increased the levels of a protein that marks new bone tissue growth. Other sources of fructans include artichokes, onions, and garlic.

Agave nectar is composed mostly of fructose, a monosaccharide the body uses for energy without spiking blood sugar levels. For this reason, many feel fructose is a great substitute for sucrose (white table sugar). But lately some experts are changing their minds.
The NOT so good news: Fructose is processed by our liver. When we have too much in our system, the liver becomes overwhelmed and starts to turn the excess into fats. Those fats are sent to the bloodstream as triglycerides, which contribute to a higher risk of heart disease. So, the problem isn’t agave nectar, per se. It’s the over-indulgence of fructose.

Living Tree Agave Nectar

Jesse Schwartz, PhD, says, “[Agave nectar is] not a superfood, it’s not a wonderment: all sweeteners should be used in moderation. It is not a magical food!” President of Living Tree Community, Dr. Schwartz’ company is huge with raw food proponents. On their websitewww.LivingTreeCommunity.com, they promote the idea that “vibrant good health is a combination of many subtle elements including alive food ….” I absolutely love their products and use them as a frequent resource. Although many companies describe their products as raw, they don’t always qualify. It’s super important to make sure that when you’re buying raw products like agave nectar, you get them from a reputable source like Living Tree Community to ensure that you receive the best product possible.

This is another awesome article by Dr. Edward Group from the Global Healing Center! This tells the truth abouit agave nectar: Agave Article By Dr.

Recently, I’ve heard from several people expressing concerns about the amount of chlorine found in the water in our homes.

Chlorine is a toxic chemical present in both our drinking and bath water. It’s harmful to our health and dehydrates our skin. Plus, when we run water at a high temperature, the chlorine is transformed into a breathable gas which infiltrates our lungs … not to mention the damage it does to color treated hair. (Gasp!)

My suggestion for combating the chlorine in your bath is to purchase a filter for your showerhead. Simple to attach, it’s a device that removes a great deal of the chlorine, and softens the water.

The one I have is by Nature’s Shower and I got it for less than $40 at www.thegreenlifeco.com. Using calcium sulfite and carbon, it removes 90% of chlorine, heavy metals, and hydrogen sulfide, and it’s bacteriostatic (inhibits bacterial growth).

I love how my showers aren’t stinky with chlorine and now when I take a bath, I run the showerhead to fill the tub. It may take a little longer, but knowing that I’m not going to be soaking in toxins makes it worth the wait.

As you probably know, part of living holistically is removing as many toxic chemicals from our food, cleaning products, and body care products, but the chlorine in our showers and baths are often overlooked.

Help spread the word… pass it on!

I had tears in my eyes recently while reading a letter that came in from some who had taken one of my programs so I posted it below for all to see.

It’s an inspiring success story from someone who has recently taken my 10 Week Transformation Program. This is a great example of what we are all capable of creating in our own health, and in the world through holistic health. Together we can change the face of healthcare today!

She also has a health question that you may be asking yourself, that I answer below.

This is why I do what I do the work I do and love every bit of it!

~Rose

——————————————————————
Letter From Client:

“Hi Rose, I wanted to check in and say hello. I’ve been using B12 vitamins and zinc, the Adrenacalm, tulsi tea, and the Clearvite is a normal part of my breakfast. I can tell how much they are affecting my body. I’ve even noticed that I crave the tulsi tea (caffeine free). I ordered Adrenastim hoping it will help me get up easier.

My eating is completely different now. I crave healthy clean foods. I’ve really noticed how much cravings are mental as opposed to physical. I’m eating so much more nutrient dense foods. I don’t eat much, but I think my body is getting what it needs, so I don’t need to eat in excess. I eat what my body craves. I take a moment and listen to my body and determine what it’s wanting.

I’m eating a low calorie, high protein, high fat diet. I’m not keeping track of anything, I’m just eating when my body tells me to. I can feel when I’m thirsty as opposed hungry, I can feel when there is still food in my stomach, which helps to not drink water.

I’m rebounding on my trampoline, stretching, and doing some muscle work (abs, arms, squats, whatever I feel like I need). I feel so in tune with my body.

Everything is beautiful.

After getting through 7 days of the cleanse, you don’t want to mess up all your hard work. If people can make it through, it’s a great motivator.

I have two other separate points:

One is that my soon to be husband has seen the difference in me and has gone from being a skeptic to reminding me to order more Clearvite!

Question for you…

I’ve noticed by his body composition that I think he has low testosterone. I wanted to know what you think I can offer him in health information to help balance his hormones.

Additionally… I’m going to be applying to graduate school for nursing this fall. I’ve been researching programs of interest to figure where I want to pursue my career.

Right now what draws me is cardiovascular nursing, but your program and your information has really impacted my career direction.

I want to bring a holistic approach to heart disease research. The one thing that bothers me about modern medicine is the bandaid approach of giving potentially dangerous drugs to fix the symptoms as opposed to the causes.

I want to minor in genomics, which I think will bring some additional support to the finding the cause argument. I want to work in implementing heart disease rehabilitation programs and integrating nutrition, not just as a do this/don’t do that approach, but in really educating people about how the things they put in their body affect them.

I’ve been talking about health and exercise for years to people, but they never seemed so truly interested until I started giving them the kind of scientific information that you give that it makes sense. It makes sense to me, and it makes sense to other people that I talk to.

Education is the key to avoiding disease, and you have inspired me to take a whole new approach to cardiopulmonary medicine. I would like to utilize you as a resource in a few years as I get closer to finishing my education. This is quite a bit out from now, but please think about it.”

Thank you for all that you do,
Jessica

“P.S. my wedding is next week!!! and I’m 2 pounds away from the goal weight I had set for myself a few months ago…and a month ago, I didn’t think that would really happen….now I have a new goal for myself, that I have no doubt that I will reach. It’s incredible. Truly.“

—————————————————————————————————
Rose’s Response:

Dear Jessica,

Thank you taking the time to write this, and inspiring us all. My vision is to effect the paradigm of modern Western medicine, and it looks like you will be helping me do just that.

When people ask about my “10 Week Transformation” Program, it’s hard to put into words what it entails. But I think through your story they might get a glimpse of what it’s all about, and the movement that I’m creating.

About your question concerning your husband:
“I’ve noticed by his body composition that I think he has low testosterone. I wanted to know what you think I can offer him in health information to help balance his hormones.”

Here is my response to your question:
There are two important things for men to balance their testosterone levels: Just like with woman, make sure that he is keeping his stress level in check, and that he does have adrenal exhaustion, because that is a sure way to throw off your hormones. If that is the case for him, then you would put him on all the adrenal support stuff from the “10 Week Transformation“. Have him listen to recording #5.

Most men have low testosterone levels because they aren’t getting enough Zinc to make testosterone. Make sure he is taking around 100mg (for an average size person, more for bigger, less for smaller), and that it’s from a really GOOD company. Remember, not all supplimnets are created equal! I love Zn-Zyme Forte (product code #1725) from Biotics Research 800-231-5777 (give them Patient acct # 05TD9354 to open an account).

Cold sores suck. You get that tingle in your lip and you know it’s coming. The dread sets in waiting for that
week of pain and embarrassment that comes with the outbreak.

Having a cold sore is a miserable process, but what are you going to do? Western Medicine insists that there is no cure for Herpes Simplex 1, the virus that causes cold sore outbreaks.

With all due respect to the Western Medicine Community, I disagree. Being a holistic Practitioner I believe, and this is just my belief, that the body can heal from ANYTHING.

And, for those of you who carry the Herpes virus, there is hope! Your body is an incredible machine that is capable of fighting and healing any malady that comes its way. It’s just a matter of finding the right key to unlock the chemical changes needed for your biology to heal itself.

Over 60% of the population are carriers of Herpes 1, the virus that causes cold sores and 40% are carriers of Herpes 2, the virus that causes genital herpes. When carriers experience outbreaks of either cold sores or genital herpes, they are displaying outer signs of an inner war being waged between the viral infection that has taken up host and the body’s immune system.

Cold sores and genital herpes outbreaks tend to increase in colder weather because your body is using extra energy just to keep your body’s temperature up, dealing with added stressors that accompany the winter holidays, and coping with the increased sugar intake from all those seasonal treats. This leaves your forces weakened, and opens the door for viral troops to break through and break out.

You can fight back. By taking a holistic approach and analyzing the body’s entire system, you can reinforce your Immunity Army’s troops and kill off the foreign invaders once and for all! Here are some recommendations for doing just that:

Boost your immune system by taking Astragalus. Available in pill form or as a tea, this herb increases your natural T-Cell levels. Your T-Cells are like the Navy SEALs of your immune system, providing a highly intelligent, extensively trained front line of defense against any foreign bacteria or viral invaders. Also, increase your levels of Vitamin C and Zinc as these minerals further reinforce your immunity, equipping your T-Cell warriors with armor and ammunition.

Add a 300mg L-lysine supplement to your daily regimen. An essential amino acid, L-lysine affects the virus’ RNA and shuts down its ability to replicate itself in the body. L-lysine won’t kill the existing virus, but it will inhibit the viral army from adding any more troops. Protein-rich foods are good sources of L-lysine.

Watch out for foods high in L- Arginine. This amino acid will betray your Immunity Army by providing support for the foreign forces. Say no to chocolate, almonds and walnuts – all high in L-Arginine, and say yes to foods like soybeans, spinach and lentils which are low in L-Arginine and high in L-lysine. Finding the proper balance of these two amino acids is essential in wiping out the Herpes Simplex viruses.

Liquid Colloidal Silver

Discover the wonders of colloidal silver! Extensively used to treat maladies prior to the creation of antibiotics, colloidal silver is a bacteria killing machine that can be taken internally or applied directly to the sore outbreaks. Once I had a wart that wouldn’t go away. I used colloidal silver on it for two days, it disappeared and I haven’t seen a sign of it since! It is important to note that colloidal silver doesn’t discriminate and it will destroy your good bacteria as well as the bad, so be sure to reinforce your system with probiotics. I recommend taking Acidophilus in pill form because other methods aren’t as strong and you want to be certain you’re getting enough.

Also, the use of topical oils can be used on outbreaks until the virus is defeated. Essential oils such as lavender oil and lemon balm are highly effective in soothing Herpes outbreaks and will work well until your Immunity Army ousts the viral invaders. Simply dab a bit of the oil directly onto your sores using a cotton swab and experience instant relief.

Taking this multi-pronged approach and fighting viral infections from every angle is your Immunity Army’s best bet in conquering foreign invaders. You can triumph over Herpes Simplex viruses, all it takes is a little internal biological warfare. Go. Fight. Win!

A lot of people think that Yoga is just for hippies. And, maybe back in the 60s that was true – but today we know that Yoga has been around for thousands of years, and there is a reason we are still doing it today.

Yoga really is beneficial for everyone – even people who think it doesn’t work. The goal of Yoga is to unite your entire being – your spirit, your body and your mind. Yogis (practitioners of yoga) believe that in the right environment your body can find harmony and heal itself.

Because of this, Yoga is considered therapeutic. It helps you become more aware of your entire self – your posture, your flexibility, your state of mind. When you have this awareness, you also have the ability to calm down and ease your stress levels in any environment.

Believe me; you will be shocked when you read the list of things that Yoga can help with. I know that personally, nothing helps me deal with PMS (bloating, cramps, and general grumpiness) like Yoga.

When I talk about the “Holistic Approach” what do I really mean? Basically, I am talking about a looking at your body, your health, and your life as a whole, instead of compartmentalizing and thinking that they are separate. They are all very much connected.

The Holistic Health is also all about getting to the root cause of a health issue, not just putting a band-aid on the situation by treating the symptoms. I mean, really getting to the root cause of whatever is troubling you, whether it be a skin condition like mine, or a digestive disorder. I investigate every angle of my client’s health to determine what the root of the problem is.

The picture of the dandelion root may seem a little odd, but it is a depiction of what I’m trying to say. If you have a lawn or garden then you will understand this. Dandelions are murder to get rid of once they seed themselves. You can mow over them, or cut the tops off, but they will continue to grow because they have one of the longest roots of any weed. To get rid of them, you have to yank them out by the root.

That’s exactly what I’m saying about the health issues that plague each of us. Our lifestyles and the things we eat are causing issues in our bodies, and we try to cover them up with the band-aids of western medicine.

For instance, for years I tried to heal my Psoriasis with western medicine. All the doctors could offer me was prescription cortisone creams, and all it did was make my skin thin, empty my pocketbook, and in the end – made my Psoriasis worse. But, when I tried the Holistic Approach, it was a different story.

Now, I’m not going to lie to you, the Holistic Approach has it’s down side. It takes longer to work, and you don’t get that instant gratification that we are used to getting from prescriptions. But, it does work. And the effects are longer lasting because you are getting to the root cause and actually correcting the problem, not just temporality covering up the problem. AND it will improve your overall health – not just the initial problem you were trying to fix.

Let me give you an example of what I’m talking about here.

One of the things that has really worked for my skin condition is Fumaric Acid. It is widely prescribed for Psoriasis in every corner of the globe – but ours.

Why is that?

Because it is a natural product, and therefore can’t be patented. If it can’t be patented then there is much less money in it then things that are man-made and can have a patent put on them, like prescription drugs.

Raise your hand if you think the pharmaceutical companies are jumping all over that one – yeah, mine isn’t up either.

Another aspect of the Holistic Approach is giving your body what it needs to heal itself, and one of those things is de-stressing your body. If you don’t take time to de-stress, you can NOT heal your body.

Sometimes we forget that the body IS a self-healing organism, and given the right circumstances it can heal itself, but it can’t heal itself if it can’t rest so that it can do its repair work.

And I mean really rest. If you aren’t well, you can’t be lying awake all night worried about the next day, or series of days – you will never get better.

The Holistic Approach is not the only way to get better, but it is the best way for your whole body health and to achieve long-term results.

The best place to start is to contact a Holistic Practitioner to get advice on how you can work on your issue using the Holistic Approach.

I feel that salmon is hands-down the most nutritious fish on the market. It’s delicious and nutritious, can be prepared SO many different ways, is very anti-aging for your skin, and can actually help you to lose fat!

Controversy surrounds this delicious fish, and it centers around where the salmon comes from. The terms you’ve probably heard are “farmed-salmon” and “wild-caught”.

But what’s the difference? Does it even really matter? The answer is a firm YES. Wild Salmon are free to make the trek up-stream they are famous for – out to the ocean, back up the stream – you know the drill. They get more exercise; they eat the stuff salmon is supposed to eat. They can possibly contain trace amounts of mercury – but after you read what I’m about to tell you next, this will be the least of your worries!

Farmed Salmon, on the other hand, hang out in little pens where their muscles atrophy. They’re fed pellets with pink food coloring, because they’re actually gray in color instead of that bright peach color that they’re suppose to be from building their muscles swimming up-stream. They actually put dye into the fish so that we will eat it. Can you believe that?

Farmed Salmon are fatty, and the pellets they’re fed are FULL of toxic Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs).

PCBs are a cocktail of over 200 chlorinated compounds that are also used as lubricants in electrical equipment. The manufacture of PCBs was banned in the US way back in 1979! PCBs are stored in fat, so fatty farmed Salmon are straight up chock full of this stuff. PCBs are *known* to cause cancer and all kinds of other diseases.

So, what can you do to make sure you are eating the best, most healthy fish?

- Make sure it says “wild” on it, if it doesn’t say it, then it isn’t. If it says “Atlantic Salmon” that fish has never seen the Atlantic.

- Use frozen wild-caught salmon if you can’t find fresh

- Canned wild salmon is a good alternative too

- Get your wild salmon delivered by mail if you can’t get it in your area

Salmon is an amazingly healthy food. It really is. As long as you are careful about where it comes from, it’s a great source of Omega-3′s and like your mom always says, “Fish is brain food!” It’s true. It can actually replenish the serotonin in your brain, which is the chemical that makes you happy.

It may not be what you think.

When Linda came to me, she occasionally suffered from indigestion, from what she thought was due to high stomach acid. What she didn’t know was that the food allergies, depression, dry skin, and rosacea on her cheeks were all connected to her digestive issues… and that it was actually LOW stomach acid which was causing the whole mess.

Who would have thought that LOW stomach acid, also know as hypochlorhydria, could be the root cause of all of these symptoms and disorders:

- Heartburn (often thought to be caused by too much stomach acid!)
– Bloating, belching, flatulence and gas
– Constipation or diarrhea
– Low energy
– Depression
– Acne
– Hair loss in women
– Food allergies
– Dry skin
– Autoimmune disease

What the Multi-Billion dollar antacid industry doesn’t want you to know:

While most people reach for antacids when they’re experiencing indigestion and bloating, LOW stomach acid may actually be the culprit…. and you may be doing some really serious damage to your health while taking those antacids.

I’m talking about both over-the-counter ant-acids like Tums and prescription antacids like Prilosec.

I know what you’re thinking… Huh? LOW stomach acid?!

When our stomach acid is too low, the proteins in our stomach can start to ferment from not being broken down properly, and the off-gassing from this process creates pressure in our stomachs. (Imagine a soda bottle that you shook-up) The pressure in your stomach then builds up, pushing open the valve at the top of our stomachs, painfully splashing into your esophagus and causing acid reflux and heartburn.

Not everyone experiences digestive issues when they have hypochlorhydria (low stomach acid)… if fact, most people don’t even know they have it… which is scary.

The problem with not knowing you have it is that your health can start to slowly decline. By the time you figure out why, it’s a lot harder to correct the damage that’s been done.

I also want to clear up a common misconception. Just because you eat acidic foods like orange juice, tomatoes, or coffee, it doesn’t mean it’s going to increase your stomach acid… we’re talking about two completely different types of acid. Stomach acid is Hydrochloric acid which is produced by the stomach, not found in the foods we eat.

I thought it was important to make a clear distinction because I often have people who come to me with hypochlorhydria who say “but I don’t understand how I could have low stomach acid… I eat lots of oranges and tomatoes”.

Somehow the antacid industry has us believing that stomach acid is bad for us. (It may have something to do with the fact that it’s a billion-dollar industry!)

Stomach acid is actually GOOD for you; believe it or not!

There are 5 main reasons why you don’t want to have too low of stomach acid:

1. You can become protein malnourished: Hydrochloric acid (HCl) converts pepsinogen to pepsin… Without stomach acid you can’t breakdown, absorb or utilize protein! Why is protein important you ask? Because protein is vital for virtually everything in the body: healthy muscles, ligaments, tendons, organs, glands, nails and hair. The body’s requirement for protein is directly related to good health. Try building muscle when you don’t have the basic building blocks to make it! This is when some people have a hard time building or maintaining muscle, have weak nails or unhealthy hair.

2. It causes Depression: The chemicals in our brains which make us happy and content are made from amino acids, which is what protein is when broken down. Without proper protein absorption, we can become depressed. I see people in my practice all the time who suffer from depression unnecessarily because of protein malabsorption. On top of that, the central nervous system needs protein to function properly; to both send and receive information.

3. It could be setting you up for disease and illness: Low stomach acid can cause you to become mineral deficient. When protien is not digested properly, your blood becomes more acidic as your body tries to bring your blood back to a more alkaline state it can rob minerals from your body… which is important to know if you don’t want to end up with osteoporosis and other diseases caused by mineral deficiency.

4. Creates the perfect environment for things to live in your body that you don’t want there: Our stomach acid is so acidic that if you were holding it in your hand it would burn a hole in it. (Good thing we have that protective mucus lining in our stomachs!) Because of this extreme low PH, this means that it can destroy invaders like bacteria, fungus, parasites, and viruses that try to enter our bodies on our food. In this way, our stomach acid works as one of our first lines of defense for our immune system; it sterilizes our food!

5. Could be robbing you of energy and vitality: You can eat a perfect diet, but if you can’t breakdown, absorb and utilize the nutrients it won’t matter! The more vitamins, minerals, and nutrients we get out of our food, the more energy and vitality we have… it’s as simple as that.
If we have to use more of our body’s own energy and nutrients to digest our food than the food has in it, there is a deficit of energy.

Instead, we want to put hi-octane fuel in our tanks by making it as easy for our body to get all the energy and nutrients out of our food as possible.

Natural aging, a poor diet, the use of certain medications, such as Aspirin for instance, and past infection from H. pylori bacteria can impair the stomach’s ability to produce acid.

Think about it… if you use antacids for heartburn relief or indigestion, they’re not a cure for what is probably causing these problems in the first place. It’s simply a Band-Aid.

Taking pills that further neutralize stomach acid can make your digestion even worse! You’d be doing more of what may have gotten you into this mess to begin with.

The reasons stomach acid is good for you:

Stomach acid or hydrochloric acid (HCl), is a very powerful digestive agent, and is absolutely essential for health.

HCl’s important functions include:

- Breaking down proteins into the essential amino acids which your body needs in order to stay healthy.
– Allows nutrient absorption: Many vitamins and minerals require proper stomach acid in order to be properly absorbed, including iron, calcium, vitamin B12, and folic acid.
– Preventing disease: the low PH of the stomach acid destroys bad bacteria, microorganisms, and parasites that may have hitched a ride into your body on your food. (Yuk!)

As you age, your stomach acid tends to decrease, and a poor diet of processed foods is just going to add fuel to the fire and lead you to both digestive and immune problems.

Increase your stomach acid, and heal your digestion & your health.

Here are four of my favorite ways to balance your stomach acid, and make sure you’re digesting your food properly… so you avoid painful heart-burn.

1. Add ginger & cilantro to your diet. Some foods will make the problem worse, and other foods that will make the problem better and encourage healthy stomach acid and aid in digestion. These are just two of the many foods that will help aid in digestion.

2. Drink all liquids separately from meals. Yep! You read me correctly. Your stomach acid is a liquid, so by drinking when you eat you are diluting the stomach acid that we want to keep nice and concentrated and strong. This may take some getting used to, but a good habit nonetheless.

3. Take a stomach acid test: Simple and inexpensive at-home testing can determine if you have low stomach acid. I teach this in my “10 Week Transformation” program. FIND OUT MORE

4. Take a digestive enzyme capsule and HCl tablet with every meal to increase digestion. Taking a supplement capsule designed specifically to help you digest proteins from all animal and vegetable sources is the fastest way to prevent stomach aches and heartburn and aid in digestion.

5. The “10 Week Transformation Program”. This program is not just about getting rid of bloating, and increasing your energy.

…and saving your health while you’re at it!

In these economic times, you can actually SAVE money by going green with these tips. Yep, there’s actually no excuse anymore to not be healthy… you might not be able to afford *NOT* being healthy and going green!

Tips To Save Money While Saving Your Health:

- Keep your fridge full with healthy food. You’ll save money on energy because your fridge uses more energy when it’s empty, and you save money on eating out. Plus it’s much healthier to make your own food.

- Wrap your water heater in an insulating blanket. The water will stay warmer longer, so your water heater has to work a lot less.

- Check with your local electric company for incentives for using energy during “off peak” hours.

- Install dimmer switches. You’ll use less energy. Dimming the light by 25% saves an amazing 25% off your bill.

- Put your computer on stand-by mode. A computer that is left running can cost you $500-$700 per year!

- Buy food in bulk. Remember, eating out is much more expensive. You can save money if you buy in bulk, and it’s better for the environment because there’s less packaging going into the landfills. (You can find some awesome sugar-free and gluten-free recipes here: http://www.rosecole.com/products/cookbook

- Cover your pots while you’re cooking or boiling water. It conserves energy.

- Get your foot off the gas! If you drive the speed limit (rather than speeding) you’ll increase your fuel efficiency by 20%.

- Just say no to java! $3.50-4.50 on coffee per day is such a waste! (for your health and your pocket book)

- Get a polish change instead of a full manicure or pedicure, AND bring in your own chemical-free polish, which usually lasts longer.

- Use the internet to find coupon codes to buy stuff online. You can literally find coupons for just about everything, and they even have whole sites just for coupon codes.

- Stay at Eco-hotels or resorts. I stayed at one in Jackson Hole, and it was amazing! Organic everything!

- Save the paint that’s left over and have the paint store add more paint to it make more, or create a whole new color for something else.

These are just a few of the tips we came up with. A great book for more tips is The Green Book.

Please pass this article on!

My grandmother sent me to do some grocery shopping for her the other day, and when I brought back the food with the receipt I thought she was going to have a heart attack right there in the kitchen!

I don’t think I’ve ever heard her say a bad word in her life when I heard her suddenly yell: “Blueberries for $7.99! Are they out of their ——- minds?!”

My grandparents have had a garden in their backyards now for over 65 years, and grown a lot of their own produce… and organically I might add.

Times have changed since the days that we actually grew our own food, and if we want to get fresh chemical free foods it looks like we have to pay the price.

I had to explain to her that I had gone to my favorite health food store and that the blueberries were grown organically without chemicals and pesticides. To which she replied:

“So shouldn’t they cost less then since they have to put less on them?! Why do they need chemicals anyway? We’ve been growing for over 65 years without chemicals.”

Valid point, I must say.

There are three reasons why I eat organic foods whenever possible.

1. Higher nutritional content
2. Less cancer causing chemicals, nerve poisons and pesticides
3. Better taste

The bad news is that organic foods sometimes cost more, and that’s where the dilemma comes in…

There’s something else to consider though when you’re thinking of buying organic… and it’s something that few of us have ever even thought of.

But before I get to that…

There are advantages to eating organic that can potentially make a huge difference in your health. There’s a reason why you can’t go 10 minutes now days without reading or hearing the word.

But organic can sometimes cost more… so are the health advantages worth paying extra for? And are there other reasons why so many people are going organic?

Just like everything else in life, there are upsides and downsides here, so I’ll give you the facts and you make the call.

What the heck does ‘organic” mean anyway? Are the food companies just using a marketing ploy, or is there something to this whole organic craze?

Have you ever wondered if the foods in the store labeled “Certified Organic” are really organic, or if they’ve just stuck a sticker on it and hiked up the price?

Yeah, me too, until I learned this:

Basically there are two different plant growing systems, “organic”, and “conventionally grown”. Because there are two different methods for fertilizing and protecting the plants from pests and disease, there is different nutritional value of the crops.

These are quotes from an article in the National Institute of Health, October 29, 2006:

“Organic crops contain a significantly higher amount of certain antioxidants (vitamin C, polyphenols and flavonoids) and minerals than conventional ones. Moreover, there is a lower level of pesticide residues, nitrate and some heavy metal contaminations in organic crops compared to conventional ones.”

“Consequently, it can be concluded that organically produced plant derived food products have a higher nutritional value, including antioxidants than conventional ones. Furthermore, due to the fact that there is a lower level of contamination in organic crops, the risk of diseases caused by contaminated food is significantly reduced.”

What this means is that there is higher nutrient value in organically grown crops.

Further more… not only do studies show that organic fertilization practices produce crops with higher levels of good stuff like ascorbic acid and improved protein quality, but also lower levels of bad stuff like nitrates, than conventionally grown crops.

So what does it actually mean when a food is organic?

Organic refers to the agricultural process — what happens on the farm, and the way the soil is managed, being beneficial to the planet, without pesticides, or chemical fertilizers.

Organic food is produced without using conventional pesticides, fertilizers made with synthetic ingredients or sewage sludge and radiation.

And organic isn’t only for fruits and vegetables. Organic meat, poultry, eggs, and dairy products come from animals that are not given antibiotics or growth hormones (YUK!).

Organically grown also means without sewage sludge, which is cheap to buy, and chemical fertilizers, which are both cheap to buy and cheap to transport. This is one of the reasons that conventionally grown can be less expensive.

So how do we really know that a food is organic?

In order for a product to be labeled “organic,” a Government-approved certifier has to inspect the farm where the food is grown to make sure the farmer is following all the rules necessary to meet USDA organic standards.

Even companies that handle or process organic food must be certified before it gets to your local supermarket or restaurant.

That includes foreign sources, if the food is to be sold in the United States as organically-grown.

Another reason people are buying organic…

Organic food is produced by farmers who emphasize the use of renewable resources and the conservation of soil and water to protect the environmental quality for future generations.

Why wreck the planet if it isn’t necessary?!

Let’s be realistic here though…

These days it’s almost impossible to eat 100% organic, but here are some action steps to get more bang for your buck.

Foods best to get organic…

Here are a list of the top most heavily sprayed fruit and vegetable crops. If you were going to start adding in some organic foods, here’s were I’d start.

- Strawberries (one of the most heavily sprayed crops)
- Spinach (another really heavily sprayed crop)
- Cantaloupe
- Red Raspberries
- Grapes
- Winter squash
- Apples
- Peaches
- Pears

Strawberries and Spinach being two of the most heavily sprayed of all! I would definitely pay more to go organic with these two… especially for babies and children.

Other foods worth going organic for…

- Meats, poultry, eggs, and dairy

Processed or packaged foods tend to be much higher in pesticide residue.

Butter is another food that I would consider to be well worth paying a little extra for organic. (It doesn’t always cost more I might add.)

According to PAN’s Nowhere to Hide study, butter, cucumbers/pickles, meatloaf, peanuts, popcorn, radishes, spinach, and summer squash should be added to the list you should go organic with first due to high levels of long-lasting pesticides (like DDT) that build up in our bodies.

I recommend reducing your exposure to “persistent organic pollutants” or POPs by switching to the organic versions of butter, cantaloupe, cucumbers/pickles, peanuts, popcorn, radishes, spinach, and squash. These foods produced through conventional means are the most likely to be contaminated with POPs.

According to PAN’s Nowhere to Hide study, these foods contain higher levels of long-lasting pesticides (like DDT) that build up in our bodies. (That just doesn’t sound very good. Does it?!)

PCB’s are another toxin that you want to steer clear of found in farm raised salmon and non-organic butter.

Foods you may want to wait on buying organic…

These are some of the least contaminated crops:

- Asparagus
- Avocados
- Bananas
- Broccoli
- Cauliflower
- Corn
- Kiwi
- Mangos
- Onions
- Pineapples
- Papayas
- Sweet peas

Well… you and your healthy may not be able to afford not to eat organic.

Is Aspartame The Most Dangerous Sweetener?

Have you ever ordered an iced tea, and then stared blankly at those little colored packets on the table, not knowing which one to choose?

You know that some of the choices are unhealthy, but which ones? And why are they unhealthy?

You hear that some of them cause cancer, but doesn’t everything cause cancer these days? I mean… are they really that bad for you? And are any of them better for you than the rest?

And the real question weighing on all of our minds… which sweeteners will make me fatter… real sugar or artificial sugar?

Well here’s the real kicker! Are you sitting down? Artificial sweeteners are not a diet aid, in fact, they can make you gain MORE weight.

According to researchers, the number of Americans who consume artificial sweeteners has grown* from less than 70 million people in 1987 to over a whopping 160 million in 2000. So why aren’t American’s getting thinner? We’re actually getting more overweight and obese by the day.

“The American Cancer Society (1986) documented the fact that persons using artificial sweeteners gain more weight than those who avoid them” (Roberts 150)

So how can these man-made sugars sabotage weight-lose efforts?

Many researchers now believe that aspartame may actually stimulate appetite and cause more cravings for carbs and sugar.

Normally, when we eat an antiquate amount of carbohydrates, or sugar, serotonin levels in the brain rise. This alerts us that we’ve had enough to eat. When you eat aspartame and carbohydrates together, like having a diet pop and a sandwich, the aspartame stops the production of serotonin, and that feeling of having had enough never quite happens

Artificial sweeteners have also been shown to block the conversion of the brain chemicals phenylalanine to tyrosine in your brain…. So you’re probably asking yourself “what does that mean to me?”

“Why is it important to have tyrosine?” Oh, little things like brain function, suppressing your appetite, fat lose, thyroid health, to fight fatigue, stress reduction, alleviating depression and anxiety, headaches… need I say more?

Here’s another reason artificial sweeteners may not be a good weight lose tool…

According to Health psychologist Daniel C. Stettner, PhD, when manufacturers lower the sugar content in foods, they very often will increase the salt or the fat content to compensate for any change in how it tastes or feels in the mouth. To give you an example, sugar-free ice creams can be made higher in fat.

Another reason you may want to avoid using artificial sweeteners… you could be having a reaction to artificial sweeteners that you may not even know is related.

Studies have found that there are a whole slew of adverse reactions from artificial sweeteners- like headaches, trouble remembering, depression, nervousness, irritability, nausea, insomnia…just to name a few.

If you stop using artificial sweeteners, like aspartame, and adverse reactions that you were experiencing go away, maybe even symptoms that you didn’t realize were connected to them, it’s important to spread the word and tell others. You can make a big difference in your friends and family’s health.

You may also want to write a letter to the alert the FDA… so that they can pile it up with the thousands of other letters they’ve receive of adverse reactions to aspartame.

So why are artificial sweeteners legal if they’re so bad for us? We have to be smart consumers and take initiative for our own health. Apparently the government isn’t going to do it for us.

Ok, so now that we’ve ruled out those little pink and blue packets of artificial sweeteners, then how about white table sugar?

I have some more bad news for you… sugar and carbs make you fat. This country went through the whole cut-out-fat diet, and they got fatter than ever! When we cut out the fat, we started eating more carbs, and it didn’t work.

According to experts, sugar addiction is very similar to an addiction to heroin or morphine. We all know someone, and maybe it’s you, who acts almost like a crack addict when it some to sugar… like a junky looking for their next fix.

If you think you’re not addicted to sugar, I have a little challenge for you… I want you to try to go a week without eating sugar or baked goods and bread.

Most people cave in the first day! I’d definitely call that an addiction. This is where all of our rationalizations kick in. It’s amazing what we can convince ourselves of.

I have something else to tell you right now that may shock you. Many health experts now believe that sugar is the fuel for cancer cells. How is this? Cancer thrives in environments with little or no oxygen. That’s why cancer loves refined sugar – not being easy to digest, sugar ferments in the body. With alcohol, it’s already fermented when we drink it. Fermentation occurs in an anaerobic environment – no oxygen.

Now you may be in for a big surprise if you’re using those little yellow packets… Splenda (the brand name for sucralose). Ah… the marketing brilliance of Splenda. Splenda is not natural. It’s a sugar molecule that has been synthetically altered in a laboratory by adding chlorine to it. Our bodies don’t poses the metabolic machinery to break this down because it’s a chlorinated compound.

Everyone reacts differently to chemicals, and some of you may be more sensitive to the reactions of these fake sugars than others, but there have been just as many reactions reported to sucralose as the other artificial sugars.

They didn’t know what the health risks of smoking were until it was too late for many people. With these new artificial sweeteners, we don’t know what the long term effects are yet. Better to be safe than sorry, and with so many great tasting alternatives, it seems like a no-brainer.

Let’s make one thing clear that a lot of people are confused about. Carbs and sugar are the same thing. Your body breaks down carbs (carbohydrates) into sugar, so all of these low carb diets are just low sugar diets.

So how about regular old white table sugar? This is a highly processed food that has almost nothing good nutritionally about it. It causes weight gain, it can lead to diabetes, it causes tooth decay and cavities, they use synthetic chemicals to process it, and the finished product contains none of the nutrients, minerals or vitamins of the original plant.

Hidden sources of sugar that could be feeding your addiction: you know right away anything that ends with an “ose”, means sugar. The food industry tries to sneak in sugar wherever it can under different names. Here are some of the aliases that sugar goes under:

- Cane juice (organic cane juice)
- Evaporated cane juice
- Corn syrup
- Corn sugar
- Cane syrup
- Raw cane sugar
- Raw sugar
- Fructose
- Brown sugar
- sucrose
- High fructose corn syrup

Start reading your food labels, and you’ll probably be appalled like I was by all of the places they sneak it in.

So you’re probably thinking “…what the heck do I do now? …sugars or artificial sweeteners are in everything!”.

Don’t panic! The trick is to cut them out wherever you can, and this doesn’t mean you’re never going to be able to eat anything sweet again.

Here are some tricks for cutting out the dangerous sweeteners, and replacing them with healthy sweeteners.

Ketchup is loaded with sugar. I looked on the back of my organic peanut butter the other day, and found that they had snuck in some “organic cane juice”.

Sodas-14 of those little white packets of sugar per can! If you’re giving soda to your children- beware. It’s like giving a child rocket fuel, and then telling them to sit still!

Limit baked goods, processed foods, and corn syrup.

What the heck does raw sugar mean anyway? Well… it means that is hasn’t been totally processed and striped of all of its nutrients. Raw sugar still has it’s chromium in it, which causes sugar to ferment and to be brown in color, ironically it also helps your body handle sugar, so it’s a slightly better alternative to the white packs of sugar.

THERE’S A LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL!

What if I told you there was an ALL NATURAL sweetener that was:
- 200 to 300 times sweeter than regular white table sugar
- Had NO calories
- Safe for children
- Suitable for diabetics
- Doesn’t cause cavities
- Is widely available in supermarkets and health food stores across the country
- Heat stable, so you could cook and bake with it
- Has liquid and powder forms- mixes well in cold beverages
- A great alternative to man-made sweeteners
- Already used in many countries all around the world

Well this amazing no-calorie sweetener is called Stevia, and is just beginning to get noticed in the United States? It’s been used in Japan for nearly two decades.

So here’s the sweetener packet breakdown…

Pink Packets: NutraSweet- artificial, chemical based, linked to cancer, not safe for children
Blue packets: Equal- contains aspartame which is a neurotoxin, artificial, chemical based, linked to cancer, not safe for children
Yellow packets: Splenda- artificial, chlorine added to sugar molecules, many reported side effects
White packets: refined sugar- processed, causes weight gain, causes tooth decay, caused fatigue
Brown packets: raw sugar- some minerals and nutritional value left, better choice than white sugar
Green packets: Stevia- all natural, no calories, safe for children, safe for diabetics

Are you starting to see a trend here? The more we humans go in and try to improve on nature, mess around with the molecules, and process things so they’ll have a longer shelve life, the worse it is for you. Food in its most natural form is the best for you, and actually helps to fight cancer many times, unlike many artificial foods which have been shown to cause cancer.

It’s all about choices. You don’t have to turn into one of those paranoid health nuts…

Every person is different, and every diet plan is different, so if you’d like me to help you decide which sweetener is best for you and your health needs, just give me a call to set up a nutrition assessment: 888-898-WELL.

I love Sushi.

No, like I really love it. It is delicious, and super nutritious all at the same time. It is chock full of Omega-3 Fatty Acids (as all Fish is, but with it being raw, they are super concentrated), and literally is “brain food”.

A lot of people here in Cali, and in major cities throughout the U.S., eat Sushi on a regular basis, but others are wary.

Why?

There are a ton of rumors out there about sushi and parasites. Well, the fact of the matter is, a lot of them are true.

It is a cold hard fact that raw fish can contain parasites. Specifically, round worms are the main danger.

Should you contract a round worm; the symptoms can be quite nasty – including nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.

So, why would I or anyone else want to take that risk?

Because the risk really isn’t that huge. It is possible, but not probable.

The first point I have is that, most Sushi is salt water fish, and the risk is much greater in fish from fresh water.

Next, modern Sushi was “invented” in the late 1700s in Tokyo as “fast food” for the workers of the city. It is basically the evolution of a dish that was first served 800 years before that, but has always been called Sushi. Think about the millions of Japanese people who ate Sushi before anyone else did.

If it was that dangerous, would they have continued it?

And my final point is that every Sushi restaurant has a condiment that naturally kills any parasite that might be present – Wasabi.

Wasabi is a root that grows in high mountain streams in Japan and is extremely valuable. It has a strong medicinal value. It is known to decrease the incidence of high blood pressure, stroke and heart attack, as well as help with diarrhea and other stomach illnesses. A recent study suggests that it may even attack some cancer cells!

Many Sushi restaurants only carry paste Wasabi, which is created from dried or powdered wasabi, and does not have the medicinal value that “real” or “fresh” wasabi does. Many varieties of paste wasabi don’t even contain any wasabi at all – it’s just a mix of horseradish, mustard and food coloring.

Don’t let that keep you away though.

The really good restaurants will have real wasabi that they save for the really expensive dishes they offer. And since you are a hottie, just bat your eyes at your sushi chef and politely ask him if he might have any “real” or “fresh” wasabi. I bet he’ll be able to find some for you!

5 Tips For NOT Gaining Weight Over the Holidays:

1. Shrink Your Plate Size! If you use a smaller plate, you can clean your plate, but still eat less. 25% smaller plate, 25% less food! The small dessert size plate is perfect. You can try everything without taking super huge portions.

2. Don’t Party Hungry! If you are headed out to a party, grab a healthy snack before you go. You won’t be famished, and you will be more likely to eat and drink less.

3. Load Up On Protein! Some of the biggest things that can get you this time of year are the sweets. The problem is, if you eat sweets and desserts, you will crave more and more sweets and desserts. If you eat more protein, it helps stamp down those sugar cravings, so opt for the turkey instead of the tiramisu.

4. Choose Your Drinks Wisely! I’m not saying you can’t drink alcohol at all, but remember that most holiday alcoholic drinks are loaded with sugar, and alcohol is a depressant. Not something that is conducive to keeping your trim figure… and eggnog practically causes weight gain from just looking at it!

5. Stay Hydrated! This tip will serve you year round, but is especially important during this dry time of the year (and with all the party boozing). Drink 2 glasses of water for every alcoholic beverage you consume.

Q: “I’ve noticed by my fiancé’s body composition that I think he has low testosterone. What do you think I can offer him in health information to help balance his hormones.” –Jessica

A: Low testosterone in men, or “Andropause” as it’s called, is at epidemic proportions in this country, and most men don’t even realize that it’s possible for their hormones to be out of balance!

Is your guy experiencing 1 or more of the following symptoms?:

• Decreased libido
• Decrease in fullness of erection
• Decrease in physical stamina
• Difficulty building or maintaining muscle
• Inability to concentrate
• Mental fatigue
• Episodes of depression
• Muscle soreness
• Weight gain
• More emotional then in the past

These are all classic signs of low testosterone.

But what ever you do, don’t just run to your doc and ask for testosterone! These can be a temporary quick fix, but will suppress your body’s production of testosterone in the future, making the problem worse in the long run! Instead, get to the root cause and get your body to produce it’s own testosterone.

There are 2 important things for men to balance their testosterone levels:

1. Just like with woman, make sure that he is keeping his stress level in check, and that he does have adrenal exhaustion, because that is a sure way to throw off your hormones.

If that is the case for him, then he needs to start taking adrenal support. If you’ve taken my “10 Week Transformation” then you would put him on all the adrenal support stuff that you learned in week #5, and you will both want to listen to recording #5 again.

2. Another very important fact, is that most men have low testosterone levels because they aren’t getting enough Zinc for thei bodies to manufacture testosterone. Make sure he is taking around 100mg per day for an average size person (more for bigger, less for smaller), and that it’s from a really GOOD company.

Remember, not all supplements are created equal! I love Zn-Zyme Forte (product code #1725) from Biotics Research 800-231-5777 (give them Patient acct #05TD9354 to open an account).

Towards the end of summer, the big Pharmaceutical companies start their marketing push for the next flu season. Because, the flu shot is really just a way for those big companies to make some extra cash.

You can’t go anywhere without hearing about this supposed Holy Grail of medicine. Doctors tout it, friends and family tell you that you need to get it, and there are ads all over the place. But my opinion, among many more natural health practitioners including Dr. Mercola, probably the most recognized integrative doctor in the country, believe that it’s *toxic* and you should not put this stuff in your body!

Here are the FACTS that you need to know before you do get the flu shot:

FACT: 97% of all flu shots contain 25 micrograms of thimerosal, a form of ethyl mercury that is extremely toxic to humans.

FACT: Mercury is tied to Autism, Alzheimer’s and a number of other major diseases.

FACT: There are no safety studies before releasing the vaccine.

FACT: There is no proof that the flu vaccine will protect
you or give you immunity.

FACT: The flu shot does NOT prevent illness in most people, and can even do the opposite. It can weaken your immune system and make you more predisposed to illness.

Of course in the end this has to be a personal choice, but as with EVERYTHING you take, I suggest being a smart consumer and doing your research before you take ANYTHING!

In my opinion it would be more advantageous to keep you immune system strong so that you can avoid getting sick in the first place, instead of putting something toxic in your body… here I go using logic again!

Is the Birth control pill killing women?

If a woman you love is on the birth control pill this article could save her life!

I’m constantly asked these two questions in my practice:

1. Is the birth control pill safe?
2. Does the pill have other side effects other than death that could be harmful?

Some of you may have recently received the chain email about Nicole Dishuk, the woman who allegedly died from a stroke due to taking the birth control pill.

I’ve had a lot of interest around this subject, and a lot of people asking for my opinion.

You can find the original email that was sent out about Nicole Dishuk by searching her name using your favorite search engine, and you’ll see what I’m talking about with the varied opinions on the topic.

I, of course, have no way of verifying if this letter from a woman who is claiming to be her cousin is in fact “real”.

You can check out this link that ABC News did on the story with her husband who survived her and see for yourself what you think.

http://abclocal.go.com/wpvi/story?section=healthcheck&id=5303491

This woman who was a doctor, a wife, and a mother is helping to bring about some awareness to a subject which seems to have been swept under the rug.

There are deaths reported every year that are connected to the birth control pill, and they list “death” as one of the possible side effects right there, in plain sight, on the package, but few of us take it seriously enough.

I am outraged for this woman’s family and saddened that her two children are now left without their mother.

To sign Dr. Nicole Dishuk McKeon’s guest book or leave a message for her family go to:

http://obit.bizub.com/wrapper_gb.php?id=335811&clientid=bizub

I always recommend that you do your research and investigate the facts for yourself before believing ANYTHING. That includes any chain emails you receive… AND any prescriptions you receive from your doctor.

According to Nicole’s husband, Dan McKeon, the specialists told him that the ONLY risk factor they found in Nicole’s system which is associated with her stroke was her birth control pills.

The birth control pill that Nicole Dishuk was taking was one of the formulas which contains a low dose of estrogen, which causes menstruation only 3-4 times per year.

Be aware! ALL oral contraceptives can cause dangerous blood clots.

Dr. Sidney Wolfe from Public Citizen has been quoted as saying, “We’re sacrificing every year hundreds of women who have blood clots, have to be hospitalized, and in
some cases die.”

Public Citizen has put the birth control pills that reduce the number of periods you get per year, and other low dose contraceptives on their “worst Pills” list because of the synthetic hormones they contain.

Most of us don’t take the whole death thing seriously though; I mean we never imagine it will happen to us.

We always rationalize that the likelihood of actually DYING from taking the pill is low.

But there are other reasons to do your research about oral contraception.

I get dozens of women who come to see me each year who are getting off the pill and want to cleanse their bodies from the chemicals in order to stop all of the side effects.

Possible side effects from the pill… that you may not even realize are connected:

- Weight gain
- Depression
- Migraine headaches
- Moodiness

The most serious risks associated with taking the pill are blood clots, stroke, and heart attacks.

These risks are increased if you smoke cigarettes, especially in women over 35. It is strongly advised that women who use oral contraceptive DO NOT SMOKE.

Can I tell you a story about my own personal experience with the pill?

Before I was even having sex my doctor prescribed the birth control pill for me because I was having really heavy periods.

My doctor didn’t even tell me about the risks of taking the pill, or the potential side effects.

At 16, I guess I assumed that it was safe because my parents gave me the prescription, and my parents trusted the doctor enough to give it to me, so I’m not sure if any of us really knew the potential dangers.

The potential dangers were printed right there on the package, but who really reads those anyway.

We didn’t do our research, and we didn’t take responsibility for my own health. We left it in the hands of someone else… which now I realize is a big mistake.

Soon after taking the pill I started to get very depressed… for no apparent reason. I would spend days crying and experienced massive mood swings, which at first we didn’t even realize was connected to the pill.

We went back to the doctor, who gave me another pill that was reduced in strength, and thought to have less side effects. It seemed to help a little.

Then I started gaining weight. I put on 10 pounds almost over night.

For seven years, I suffered from depression, severe mood swings, and weight gain until I finally stopped taking it.

My periods did get a little lighter, but the side effects I experienced were a big price to pay to have marginally lighter periods.

My doctor never checked my hormones to see if there was another reason they could have been heavy; he just gave me a pill.

It usually takes about a year when you come off the pill before your body flushes out all the hormones.

But then I learned you could rid yourself of the side effects even faster using nutrition.

When I went to see a nutrition coach she taught me how to get my body back to balance using nutrition to get rid of the side effects, and it inspired me to go back to school so that I could teach other women to do the same.

On the other hand, the pill is very effective at preventing pregnancy. So what do we do if we don’t want the chemicals but we also don’t want to get pregnant?

There are other forms of non-hormonal birth control available, like condoms, the diaphragm, and the IUD, which I suggest you do research on all of these before deciding which one is best for you.

There’s also another method that you may not be aware of. I teach women a method of tracking your fertility signs on a chart so you can see when you have potential for pregnancy, and when you do not.

It’s a very simple and effective form of birth control, and the best part is its HORMONE FREE.

Positives of this form of birth control are:

- You learn things about your body that will blow your mind!
- No side-effects
- No drugs or chemicals
- Inexpensive
- Can be used to prevent a pregnancy as well as help you conceive
- When done properly, it’s just as effective as other forms of birth control

There are new things being introduced onto the market all the time, so search for other non-hormonal forms of birth control. I’m sure there are things our that that I’m not aware of yet.

If you know of other hormone-free birth control methods, I would love to hear from you. You can email me at info@wellnesswithrose.com.

Please send this to every woman you know – we need to get the word out about this!

One of the great benefits of living in Southern California is the sunshine. But even in this fabulous climate, we don’t get enough sun to fulfill the body’s need for Vitamin D. That’s right, the sun is the *best* way for the body to make its own Vitamin D. And in my recent interview with the most recognized integrative doctor in the country – Dr. Joseph Mercola – we talked about all of the health dangers that can result from Vitamin D deficiency, and what we can do to correct this problem.

The secret of Vitamin D is so amazing, that the big drug companies are doing their best to make sure that none of the rest of us know about it. Dr. Mercola and I are both passionate about getting the word out on Vitamin D and making sure that everyone knows what it can do for you. Vitamin D is literally one of the most powerful vitamins that you can put into your body. And it isn’t even a real vitamin – it’s actually a steroid-hormone. Your body can make it all by itself with the help of the sun. But, as I mentioned, even in SoCal, there isn’t enough sun to make as much as you need.

One of the reasons for this is sunscreen.

Dermatologists and the various Cancer organizations would never admit this, but sunscreen is not preventing cancer – it is actually making it worse! By preventing your body from making Vitamin D, you are encouraging the growth of malignant cells in your body. The incidence of cancer has risen steadily in the US as the use of sunscreen has increased – and that is a FACT.

Another fact is that there about 250,000 Americans that are dying every year from Vitamin D deficiency. Very few of the death certificates would list Vitamin D deficiency as a cause of death, but it was an underlying issue in all of these cases.

There are so many health issues that can be caused by Vitamin D deficiency, and most people have absolutely no idea what really causing the problems that are plaguing them. By simply making sure that your Vitamin D levels are on target, you may give your body natural protection from a huge number of conditions.

Protection against multiple sclerosis (MS)

Helps Prevent diabetes

Signals colon, breast and prostate cells to stop growing and eventually succumb to programmed cell death

Protection against cardiovascular diseases

strengthen bones and the immune system

provide pain relief

prevents schizophrenia

Inflammatory Bowel Disease

Rheumatoid Arthritis

Osteoporosis

When a pregnant woman has proper levels, it can prevent autism in children

So, what can we do to get our bodies to the place they need to be? To really jumpstart your health, Vitamin D is by far the biggest bang for your buck. The benefits are innumerable, and the cost is so low it’s almost ridiculous. This is exactly why western medicine doesn’t want anyone to know about it – they would lose a lot of money because people wouldn’t need their drugs anymore.

So, what are the best ways to get enough Vitamin D?

Supplements are a great answer, but you can also use a *safe* tanning bed. I don’t mean the OLD variety that made all that humming racket when you start them, but the new kind of tanning beds that run almost silently. (The older varieties produce radiation.) Make sure that they produce both UV-A and UV-B rays and are a great substitute in the winter months. Of course, the very best way to help your body make Vitamin D is the sun.

As always, don’t take what I say as Gospel – investigate for yourself, but please don’t take this lightly. I truly believe that everyone can benefit from this information, and from making sure your body is performing at its optimal levels.

I recommend that all of my clients go through a Cleanse at least twice a year. Many, me included, do one with the change of each season.

The problem with these amazing bodies we have is that it didn’t come with an owner’s manual. Think of a Cleanse like the regular maintenance you make sure your car always gets. You would never dream of skipping an oil change on your car, because it gets regular use, and if you want it to last, you need to change the oil. You wouldn’t instinctively know this, but the owner’s manual tells you to do it.

I decided to do my most recent cleanse after a trip with my girlfriends to Miami. In that gorgeous environment, with all of the fresh fruit available, I couldn’t help but eat a little more than I should have. Fruit in and of itself is not a bad thing, but the sugar in it triggered my sugar cravings, and when I got home I found myself craving lots of sugar and eating off of my normal plan. Believe me, there is no better way to hop back on the bandwagon than with a Cleanse!

The health benefits of a Cleanse are numerous, and this is just a small list of what you can get out of one cleanse:

1. Energy like you wouldn’t believe. When the Cleanse is complete, some people literally feel like a kid again.
2. Toxins that you didn’t even know where there can be flushed out of your body.
3. Clearer and younger looking skin!
4. Many notice that their body naturally adjusts to their ideal weight.
5. Balance your blood sugar to reduce cravings.
6. And best of all, you gain a real self-awareness through this journey over yourself and what you eat.
Believe me; you will learn so much about yourself through the course of a Cleanse. This is a real indication of your integrity and your strength.

I always say, “How you do one thing (like a Cleanse) is how you do EVERYTHING.”

Meaning if you cheat on a Cleanse and rationalize that it’s okay to have ONE cookie or one chip; you will do the same thing in every area of your life. You will stop trusting yourself, and lose faith in your own abilities.

Finishing a Cleanse gives you such a feeling of accomplishment.

Be sure to do your research and find the right cleanse for you, and to consult your health practitioner before you begin.

There are many different types of cleanses out there, but the one I do on myself is called the Biotics 10 Day Detox from Biotics Research.

It’s amazing and one of the best things about it is that it reduces inflammation throughout my whole body, clearing out toxins and leavening me with younger more radiant looking skin. It’s also really helping with my struggle with Psoriasis.

One of my clients is doing the same Cleanse, and in only 10 days she literally looks 4-5 years younger!

If you curious about what doing a Cleanse like this involves, Click here for the full instructions!

The Biotics cleanse kit can be purchased through Biotics Research by calling (800) 231-5777 and giving them this account number: 05TD9354.

Also, be sure to request the Rice Protein kit (not the whey protein).

If you tell them you want the “Rose Cole Offer” – You’ll get a free bottle of their amazing form of liquid vitamin D!

Finally, there are some temporary negative effects that you could experience with the Biotics cleanse, or any other cleanse.

You may experience some temporary negative effects, like headaches, constipation, loose stools, skin breakouts or flu-like symptoms. Please remember that this is a normal part of the process, and it is completely natural.

Another possible temporary effect while on a Cleanse is that you could feel more emotional, sensitive or irritable.

One thing I suggest doing is telling the people in your life that you are doing a Cleanse so that people will know what to expect and so that they can be supportive of you.

Your body is flushing out toxins, and they’ve got to get out. These not so nice effects should only last a day or maybe three, but in the end it will all be worth it!

Of all of the clients I’ve had, NONE have ever felt worse after a Cleanse. And some people have absolutely no detox symptoms at all.

With all of the planning that goes into taking a trip, it’s easy to be exhausted before the trip even begins!

Try these super easy tips to make sure you’re rested and ready to go when you get there. (or so that you don’t feel like a train hit you when you get back!)

#1: Hydration, Hydration, Hydration!
Drink plenty of water, especially if the trip is a long one. It will not only help you stave off fatigue, but it will keep the muscle aches at bay. The conditioned air of cars, trains & planes will leave your skin and body dried out. Stay away from alcohol, which will increase the dryness even more. Find a good skin tonic and spritz your face to keep your skin healthy. If you are on a plane, make sure you drink at least 8 oz of H2O per hour to ward off dehydration!

#2: Take a Walk
Sitting for long periods of time will not only cause your legs to cramp, but can actually cause a dangerous condition called Deep Vein Thrombosis. If you are in a car, stop at a rest area and walk about a bit. If you are on a plane or train, try to walk up and down the aisles at least once an hour. Make sure to bend and stretch your legs while you sit, and roll your head and shoulders around to avoid a stiff neck.

#3: Ear Plugs!
That might be a bit excessive, or maybe not. Kids, engines & chatty neighbors can wear you out and leave you on edge. Pop your ipod in your ears, or wear some noise-reduction headphones. As soon as I get on the plane, I put in my ear plugs. You will not regret it when you get there with your sanity intact!

#4: Get Lost with Lavender
Lavender is known to help with relaxation. A neck pillow or even a sachet will calm your stress levels and your soul. Or try dropping just a couple drops of lavender essential oil to your palms, cup over your face, and take 3-4 deep breaths.

#5: Book a Spa Date Before You Get There
There is nothing like a good massage to rejuvenate the weary traveler. Think ahead and book the appointment before you get there; busy resort spas often book up fast. It’s well worth the extra cash.

Have a great trip!
